How you can help
This campaign began in 2006 as a reaction to supermarkets who were freely selling items such as those pictured above. There was no choice, the big stores has decided you had to go grim for Halloween.

Woolworths, Asda, Sainsbury and The Disney Store now offer choice. Tesco and the Co-op are still not seeing the opportunity and responsibility they have. There are two ways that you can help the campaign succeed with the remaining supermarkets. The more you do, the more successful the campaign will be.

Task 1
Listed below is a selection of stores. Click the name of the store you use and you will be able to send an email message to the company or be able to call them in person.

Sample message for store managers:
Dear Store owner,
Not everyone wants to see children dressed as monsters or murderers at Halloween.  Please can you give us a choice; some fun items for children and some options. You do this all the time with organics, Fair-trade and allergy free ranges. Stores such as yours succeed by offering consumers choice, I hope you might be able to widen the range soon. No everyone want to go grim at Halloween.

Co-op: Email: customer.relations@co-op.co.uk
or Phone: 0800 0686 727

Task 2
Please print out the sample letter, adapt it and send it to the head of the supermarket that you use (details below).

Top people at the Supermarkets and stores.

Tesco   Sir Terry Leahy
New Tesco House,
Delamare Road, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire EN8 9SL

ASDA   Andy Bond
ASDA House,
Southbank, Great Wilson Street, Leeds LS11 5AD

Sainsbury's  Justin King
Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd, 33 Holborn, London
EC1N 2HT

Just as the big stores give people a choice of organic, fair-trade or allergy free, we are trying to get them to offer their customers a choice.

No everyone wants to go grim at Halloween.

"We're not trying to push for certain goods to be banned, but simply that a choice is available."
